Frequently Asked Questions
- How do I play?
Connect adjacent hex tiles to spell words. Longer words score more points. Claim territory by spelling words through tiles. Check How to Play for the full guide.
- How does online multiplayer work?
One player hosts a game and shares a 6-character code. Others enter the code to join. The connection is peer-to-peer — no account required.
- What counts as a valid word?
Hexpell uses a comprehensive English dictionary. Words must be at least 3 letters long and formed by connecting adjacent hexagonal tiles.
- Can I play offline?
Yes! Solo games against the AI work completely offline. Only online multiplayer requires an internet connection.
- What is the Daily Challenge?
Every day there's a new board that's the same for all players. Play solo with limited turns and try to maximize your score!
Troubleshooting
- Can't connect to an online game
Make sure both players have a stable internet connection. Some corporate/school networks block WebRTC. Try a different network if the connection fails.
- Game is running slowly
Try closing other browser tabs. On mobile, make sure your browser is up to date. Smaller board sizes run faster on older devices.
- Words I know aren't being accepted
Hexpell uses a standard English dictionary. Proper nouns, abbreviations, and some regional words may not be included.
